Homestay Network recommends all students/guests purchase and maintains their own Health Insurance. Australia has a world-class health system. You have your choice of General Practitioner (Family Doctor), Public (Government funded) and Private (corporate owned/operated) hospitals. Treatment at Public Hospitals is similar to any medical treatment you will receive in our private hospitals. Government funded and subsidised health treatment is only available to Australian Citizens or Permanent Resident’s and people from a limited number of countries have access to the Medicare system – the national health system.

These countries have reciprocal healthcare agreements with Australia, at the time of writing:

    1. Belgium
    2. Finland
    3. Italy
    4. Malta
    5. Netherlands
    6. New Zealand
    7. Norway
    8. Republic of Ireland
    9. Slovenia
    10. Sweden
    11. United Kingdom

We suggest you check if your country of residence has reciprocal Healthcare Agreements with Australia before you travel to Australia. You can check here.

If your country of residence isn’t on the list above and you do not have Health Insurance, you and your family will have to meet the full cost of all medical treatment you receive while studying in Australia.

We suggest you have a policy that will cover you for Medical, Dental and Hospital as a minimum.

The links below will take you to websites that allow you to compare Policies offered by some Health Insurers operating in Australia.
